» Leo answers 6th round Q&As 03/12/2008

Hi Everyone,

I can’t believe it, it’s December and another year has just flown by!

It’s been an exciting year for me, having my 60th birthday in May, and also a cause for great celebration with the release of “Don’t Wait Until Tomorrow”. I guess my next milestone will be 40 years in the music business - but that won’t be 2012! So with Christmas and New Year approaching I’m currently at home in Sydney making some exciting plans for next year, and I hope you’re doing the same…

There’s lots of talk of recession and doom and gloom, but art and music will survive all that I’m sure, and the will to create and succeed will flourish in such an atmosphere. I feel optimistic that we will all achieve a better, more peaceful and humanitarian year next year – that’s my Christmas wish.

I’ve answered some more of your great questions below, and I hope the answers serve satisfy your curiosity. The winner this month is “Diane In London” for a flurry of challenging topics that really made me put my thinking cap on…! Diane can you let us have a contact address by sending an email to: contact@getmusic.com.au and we’ll get your prize to you.

Thanks for all the messages this month, but please be patient with the moderators. As I’ve said before, this is an open forum. I know some of you would like every question vetted before it’s allowed to be posted up, but this would create a huge delay in the entries, and make so much extra work for the moderators. They are hard pressed to keep the site monitored (and clean) at the moment, but it’s being done. All bad, crude and rude messages, will be, and are being removed as fast as we possibly can remove them. Remember that the moderators are at their desks in Australian time, which means there will always be some European daytime troublemakers making an appearance before our girls get to do their job. I don’t like reading this stuff any more than you or they do, but that’s the world we’re in now. Celebrity is a target, and I know to some people I definitely am! But I’m a big boy and can take it, and I ask all you who’ve been offended to do the same. Anyone who abuses this forum will have their messages removed, and you my friends will prevail.

Happy Christmas in advance, but I’ll talk to you all before the New Year, I promise… Leo

» Leo answers your Q&As! 31/10/2008

Hi Folks,

Sorry to be so slow in answering your questions this month. I’m currently in London, on a hectic trip to Europe, doing some business, but basically on vacation here - and I’ve been visiting Italy too. I must say that it’s great to be in London again, even if it’s a little bit too cold!

Meanwhile a big thanks to my Australian fans for your support and all your great comments and reactions to the recent Sydney and Melbourne shows. I had a ball, and I know all the musicians did too. Hopefully we’ll be doing more of these style concerts soon.

Please keep your questions coming, for I’m really enjoying answering them. There’ll be another session at the end of November, with a special Christmas prize for the best question!

That brings me to this month’s winner… It’s Clare Woodward, a regular contributor from the UK. Congratulations Clare, please let us know your postal address by sending it to contact@getmusic.com.au, so I can send a prize.

Okay, I’m back in sunny Sydney soon, but all the best from me in London right now, to you, wherever you are… Thank you all for your questions and comments, and your loyal support.

Bless you all, Leo.

» More Q&As for the fans! 22/09/2008

Hey folks, Here we go with this month’s Q + A session…. It’s late September, so it’s round no. 4.

Thanks for all the intelligent enquiries and I hope you find your question amongst the selection, and that my answers are informative or helpful. I must say that I’m really enjoying the dialogue, so please keep the questions coming and I’ll be back with more answers next month...

There will be a prize for each month’s best question. I’m looking for something that’ll truly challenge me, yeah?

This months winner is Paul Sheerin – he had a brace of great questions that made me have to go and research the answers. Great stuff Paul, but now we need your address – so please get back to us with it…

On Sept. 6th, with a great company of 26 musicians, I performed at Sydney’s beautiful State Theatre. It was a completely new show, with stellar players, strings and William Motzing, my conductor/arranger from “Don’t Wait”, all onstage with me. I was so glad to see some of you made it there.

We’ll be performing again at The Hamer Hall at The Arts Centre in Melbourne on Saturday October 18th, and I hope that some of you can make it there too. I’ll have photos and inside news about the shows posted up here soon.

Meanwhile, keep well and here’s wishing you all much peace and happiness… Leo.

» Leo's answers just keep coming!! More fan questions... 19/08/2008

Thanks for all your feedback, though I'm noticing that many bad apples are spoiling the fine crop of messages we're getting. I'm determined not to introduce censorship - I'd hate that - but for all those who wish to abuse the message board, I'd only warn you of the wrath of the dedicated fans. If you want to play tough, they'll certainly prove tougher..!

As for myself and the moderators - we'll remove and keep on removing abusive messengers, but it's an open forum and these idiots will always get in, especially at night when Sydney's sleeping and the rest of the world is awake. It's pretty cowardly and offensive to disguise yourselves by using somebody else's name too, and please be aware that the moderators here at Universal are young people, girls - so please don't get crude.

Okay, it's up to you, this is your site and I can only request from you decent behaviour, clear questions and short succinct messages.

It's not meant to be solely a conversation board or chat site either, so please point your questions and comments to me and the moderators and be aware of everyone who's listening to you. Also please don't set up little private groups that only talk to each other here - use your emails for that.

Good behavior creates good forums - so, as I say, it's up to you...

On a positive note, it's been great to welcome so many visitors from all around the world. Like the Olympics it proves we're all not so different! The re-designed site has been up for nearly four months now and every now and then we aim to add more details and info to it.

Please check out the Biography section, which some of you long time LS.COM visitors will recognize is a re-write of "Leo's Story" on the old site. It's been completely re-vamped and updated and if you click on the highlighted words pictures will appear. There are 90 of them in total!

Okay, here's the latest round of answers from me to your questions... Keep 'em coming and we'll talk again in a month's time.

I'm very busy right now preparing for the 'An Evening With Leo' shows, which kick off at Sydney's beautiful State Theatre on Saturday 6th of September. It's going to an exciting night and I do hope to see some of you there.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding, and your loyal support - and bye for now....

Leo.

Hi Leo, thank you so much for answering my Leo Sayer queries, very interesting answers too. Sorry to hear the fall you had in 1977 has had adverse effect on your recent knee injury. I agree with Leo, its unbelieveable its December already. Well I used to make plans but not so much now, I just take each day as it comes as found planning things didn't always take off the ground. But good luck to you Leo, for 2009 and go careful don't want Leo Sayer having anymore knee injuries. Take care.

By: DANIEL at 02/12/2008 22:26:14
Hi Leo, I've been wondering if you've ever played or sung live the song " Sea of Heartbreak". Your version is awesome and I remember it being big in the South Pacific when I was growing up Cheers...D

By: JOANN at 02/12/2008 05:19:55
Dear Leo , On YouTube I came across a trailer for an animated film called "Dog". It listed you as the voice of the "Critter",but didnt play your voice. What ever happened with that? Was it ever released? You should consider doing more voice over work. You have a very nice speaking voice and you do so many other voices and accents that you would be perfect at it! It would be great to hear your voice on animated videos and documentaries. It could be the start of a whole new career! Again, best wishes, JoAnn

I wonder if the Leo Sayer Fan Club President will remember Jayne and Alan Sutton at all? I joined Leo's ex-fan club when it was around. Think I may still have some of the things from it somewhere. Not sure.

By: SUE MACKIE at 02/12/2008 02:19:41
Hey Leo! I`m so glad that you are happy and busy in Australia. I know you have alot of fans there. I have to tell you I was suprised and confused by the Big Brother fiasco! What happened? You must have had a whole lot of negative stuff going on and couldn`t cope. I was really disappointed in you at the time but, hey, we all make mistakes. Anyway as this is the first time I`ve come across your site so I thought I`d say hello. All the very best, Leo Sue Mackie (ex fan club president - such great fun while it lasted) xx

By: CHARLOTTE at 29/11/2008 20:24:58
I think the unofficial Australian Anthem is Waltzing Matilda and Advance Australia Fair is the official Australian Anthem isn't it Leo? I came across something on the Internet about it. And if I remember rightly Leo, doesn't Spikes All Star Band play an anthem and if they do please can you remind the name of it as have been trying to think about which one it is, its a good one too. Thank you again Cobber and Leo Sayer. Best wishes, Charlotte C

By: TO COBBER at 29/11/2008 20:12:05
Hi Cobber, ah right many thanks for letting me know am much appreciated to you. And thank you for introducing yourself to me. Best wishes, Charlotte

By: HARRY NISAR at 29/11/2008 19:07:54

By: KARLA at 29/11/2008 18:50:47
Hi Leo! I wanted to send a short note to say hi. I am at work right now; working the night shift. I am watching you on PBS. The 70's music was so great; I really miss that era. Hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday; it is such a busy time. Well; take care; wish you the very best now and in the future. God bless you and your family. Karla

By: CHARLOTTE C at 29/11/2008 06:51:38
Cobber, is right about the song been recorded by Lonney Donnigan but am just wondering whether there's any connection between the song and Australia. So thanks for that mate, and I will await to see Leo Sayer's answers regarding the connection of that song and also the Australian Anthum which I am pretty sure is Waltzing Matilda isn't it Leo? Charlotte x

By: PS at 29/11/2008 05:33:35
I think dad was telling me 'My Old Man's A Dustman' became popular in Australia would that be the connection please Leo? it will be interesting to see Leo's answers. Thanks again for trying Cobber. Charlotte

By: CHARLOTTE TO COBBER at 29/11/2008 05:28:24
Well thanks Cobber for your kind help but we will wait and see Leo's answers he will tell us who is right out of either my dad or myself, after all I did ask Leo the questions. You could however be right on My Old Man's A Dustman think dad mentioned the same as you there but again, please lets wait and see what Leo's answers are and again thanks for trying to be helpful is appreciated. Best wishes, Charlotte.

By: PS TO CHARLOTTE C at 29/11/2008 04:41:03
and as far as I know, my old mans a dustman is a cockney song, not ozzie at all. thats the lonney donnigan one, right?

By: COBBER at 29/11/2008 04:32:59
Your dad wins charlotte, australia's national anthem is Advance, Australia Fair. and a very fine anthem it is too.

By: CHARLOTTE C at 29/11/2008 03:31:30
Dear Leo, please can you help settle a dispute between my dad and I. I tells my dad the anthumn (sorry if misspelt) for Australia is Waltzing Matilda. My dad say's its not I tell him it is. Please can you let me know which one of us is right and also, I recall you singing 'My Old Man's A Dustman' song amidst your hits you performed at Cheltenham's Town Hall ten years ago, what reason did you choose to sing it is it because that song has Australian connections and what are the connections of that song please? I look forward to your answers and in advance thank you for answering all my Leo Sayer queries, and for settling dispute between my dad and I. I will tell him your answer as soon as I get told from you. Thank you Leo Sayer, love Charlotte x

By: CHRISTINE ADAMS at 28/11/2008 01:29:49
To Leo and the moderators of the site:- Will you please consider removing the message board or at least installing a filter. Every day it's the same:- posts that range from stupid to obscene, that your site staff have to delete every evening. Having an open board only encourages the weird fantasists, they are not fans but dangerous stalkers with an unhealthy obsession. It sets a bad example when these crazy people are allowed to spoil what could be an excellent site. Please consider this request seriously Leo. Thankyou. Christine Adams

Do you still collect car stickers from places you visit? And is Roget's Thesaurus still your favourite Thesaurus book? If there was one thing you could wish for this Christmas, what would it be and why? Looking forward to your answers to those questions, love from, Charlotte x

By: TAL SHEFARW at 26/11/2008 05:06:12

Same old same old. Used to post on the old Leo board till it was shut down because of idiots, found this one, read thru the old posts, found the same idiots still posting, the board full of the same old fantasies, same old stupid people as before. i have a young daughter aged ten who's a Leo fan like me but I don't want her reading this sort of tripe. Why don't you filter your messages BEFORE they appear, Leo?

By: JENNIFER WARDALE at 25/11/2008 22:52:02
Hi Leo! I was wondering when did you first start learning an musical instrument and how did you learn and what instruments do you play? Keep up the great singing/writing, you're fantastic! Jen.

By: JOANN at 25/11/2008 02:54:23

Leo, no - where in South Africa are you able to obtain the cd " Cool Touch". Please help!

By: ROBIN HALL at 24/11/2008 19:18:32
Hi Leo, you will not remember, but we met, in the late 70's in Johannesburg. I was involved in a company which owned and ran the (then) biggest record retailer in South Africa. You very kindly agreed to do a P/A at our store- JOY Music- which was one of the most successful P/A's we did. It was a pleasure meeting you then and I have remained a fan ever since. (Your Greatest Hits CD is a permanent fixture in my car cd player. Enough for now. Just a quick question- how influential was the late Adam Faith on your early years.? Ciao for now, Stay cool

By: JOANN at 24/11/2008 02:49:37
Dear Leo,You mentioned once before that you used to run away from home a lot and that your dad locked you in the garden shed. How old where you when this happened and how long did you have to stay there? Did you ever run away again? Do you remember any other childhood mischief where you were seriously punished?......I recently took a bad fall at work injuring my shoulder so I sympathise with your knee pain. At our age we need to be careful! Keep the pain meds handy! Love and best wishes, JoAnn

By: CHARLOTTE at 23/11/2008 22:53:15

Hey - a few months ago you responded to a question regarding some photographs taken by Kristian at your Melbourne Palms concert. You asked for an email address for me... so, please find following leosayerphotos@yahoo.com.au cheers for that, would love to see them! (Just didn't want to post my personal address on this site!)

By: CHARLOTTE at 20/11/2008 18:21:14
non - leo sayer fans shouldn't even care to enter this site, this is for leo sayer fans only and yes, leo ought to make it compulsory for leo's fans to send him a message/questions they have that system on the leo sayer fans clubhouse website. then that way leo's board can be used for its proper purpose and it would keep the crop of bad apples away. please consider this leo, thanks.

By: CHANELL ECCLES at 20/11/2008 12:19:37
Hi Leo, I've been a huge fan since I was little, and now my kids are enjoying your music through The Wiggles...very clever :) When are you going to do some shows in Perth? We tend to be forgotten over here and we'd love to see you. Cheers! Chanell xx

By: DIANE IN LONDON at 19/11/2008 05:42:52
Hi Leo, I became a huge fan of yours in 1976 when I was 7 years old. I remember your uncompromisingly effervescent performances on TV. During the 80’s and 90’s I was heartbroken not to see much of you anymore, nowadays I still become that excited 7 year old whenever I see footage of you. My questions are (1) what is your secret to being so energetic and young? (2) If you liked someone would you come on strong or would you hesitate? (3) When will the new CD be released in the UK? (4) Why do you think Australia appreciates you more than the UK? You should be a national treasure over here. (5) Who could sing the higher falsetto, you or Jim Gilstrap? (6) Have other artists recorded cover versions of your album tracks? (7) Have you ever performed I Don’t Feel Like Dancing? The Scissor Sisters should overlook the royalties there!

By: RAYNER at 18/11/2008 15:42:12
Please tell me the name of your aftershave starts with something tobacco, my husband read in the Sunday paper, a write up of you, he was interested to know what something tobacco was like. Would like to get it for his Xmas present. Regards Rayner

It would be great to have you visit us in the U.S.A.. Especially at the American Airlines Center or at The House of Blues in Dallas, Texas. I hope to see you soon Here. a big Fan Curtis

By: CHARLOTTE at 17/11/2008 11:15:18
Thank you Joann for your kind help, much appreciated. Yes, you're right about you and I being Leo Sayer trivia collectors. One Man Band was recorded/released 1974 in April that year if I remember, and Roger Daltery recorded in in July the same year, I think - please can Leo put me right on that one? Reason I asked Leo about The Beatles question was because am sure he mentioned on one of his radio shows once, something about recording in the adjacent studio to the Beatles at one time, am sure Leo will set us straight on that one. Thank you Joann, and yes, thank you in advance to Leo for all his answers.

By: JOANN at 17/11/2008 10:15:03
I think Charlott may be mistaken about Leo and the Beatles recording in adjacent studios. The Beatles broke up in 1970 and One Man Band wasnt recorded until 1973 or 1974. Just trying to be helpful. Both Charlotte and I are Leo Sayer trivia collectors, we want to know everything about his life and adventures. Thank you Leo for all your answers, JoAnn

Dear Leo, A while back I found an interview in which you spoke of your many holidays and adventures. I especially liked the stories of the clandestine trip with Air America, and your meeting Muhammed Ali. Could you tell me please, did you ever get back to see Angkor Wat ? ,or see Muhammed Ali again ? Thanks for answering my questions and I hope you are having a wonderful vacation. Love always, JoAnn

Hello, My name is Bruno and I am the webmaster of the French blog Cool Night : http://coolnight-westcoastmusic.blogspot.com/ First of all, I apologize for my approximate English … The Cool night site has for vocation to tell the information on the American music and more particularly the Westcoast / AOR and to speak about artists who we love. Cool Night exists since 2004 and became inescapable in France and in the rest of the world. I allow to contact you because we speak about the release of your next album. Indeed, it is possible to have a copy of this CD. In the case of a positive answer, I give you my coordinates: Bruno FABRIGUES 3 Villa des Buttes Chaumont – 75019 PARIS FRANCE. I thank you for having taken time to read this e-mail. Best Regards

By: MAREE WHITE at 10/11/2008 13:34:18
Dear Leo Sayer, For your co-writing consideration, I welcome an opportunity to send you five pop songs (one as a demo, and four in lyric form). As a lyricist, two songs I co-wrote with Graeme Howie, from The Howie Brothers, have been recorded through Glenample Records. Yours sincerely, Maree White.

By: CHARLOTTE at 09/11/2008 23:29:36
Hi Leo, Did you ever have a girlfriend when you were boy choister at St.Mary's church Shoreham what was her name or was Janice your first girlfriend, and weren't you introduced to her by the guitarist in Patches? What made you decide to become famous? And do you think you will be DJ again either on classic gold or other radio stations ? I enjoyed you being host on our local radio and can remember many of the songs you played which were a good selection, I have to say...and in advance again, thank you for answering my Leo Sayer queries, I look forward to your answers when you answer them....thank you Leo.

Hi Leo, love your work on Spicks and Specks . This might sound a bit cheeky but I was wondering if you would like to sponsor my MO….. During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I'm growing a Mo. That's right I'm bringing the Mo back because I'm passionate about tackling men's health issues and being proactive in the fight against men's depression and prostate cancer. To donate to my Mo you can either: Click this link https://www.movember.com/au/donate/donate-details.php?action=sponsorlink

Leo's no need to apologize for being so slow in answering our questions - good things are worth waiting for, and Leo Sayer is good and worth waiting for his answers to our questions, as us genuine Leo Sayer fans realise and appreciate you have a frantically busy time with your job at times. And at this point, I would like to ask you Leo, would you like me to email you the article regarding the time you were hero of the King's Hotel fire in Brighton? I await and look forward to your answer and in advance again, thank you Leo Sayer.

Leo, did I hear you had some connection with Peter Pan or an influence from an idea, you mentioned in a conversation with David Courtney on one of your Leo Sayer Re-issue One Man Band series. Please can you remind me what was about? I think you and David then played the great atmospherics sounds on that CD. I hope I've remembered rightly its featured on your third album 'Another Year', re-issue one man band CD, Leo's Story Part 3.

That's interesting Leo in Singapore, (I was born near there) well here's some more questions for Leo Sayer, did you and Janice live in an apartment in Singapore once, and was it in Orchard Road as to where you got the title of your song 'Orchard Road' from? Also please can you remind me the two names of childrens charities which you support? I think I also read somewhere, you have never done a duet with anybody, why is this? and if you did who would you perform or record a duet with? Again, I look forward to your answers and in advance, thank you Leo.

Did they strive to continue or did they go onto doing something else? I look forward to your answers and in advance, thank you Leo.

Hi Leo, Can you let me know when you'll be back in Canberra. Unfortunately I was out of Canberra last time and missed my chance of getting a signed copy of a LP Record. I bought an album back in 1987 for "Orchard Road" one of my top 2 songs. Between you and Bonnie tyler's "Faster than the speed of Night" I took it out and promptly dropped the album completely scratching the other side. Luckily the side with Orchard Road was not damaged so I still got my money worth. So all I need now is to get that signed and one more of my life's goals achieved. anyway, nice to see I can actually email you. should have searched the net a long time ago ;-) Glenn

Hi Leo! Thanks for answering my last question. I have spoken to Trevor Spencer (who lives in Austraila!), who was a collegue of yours for Living in a fantasy, and the single By Bye My Sweet Love (a wonderful song/performance!) and when I mentioned to him that my brother and I write music and make demos, he had a listen to some and gave his professional and artisitc opinion, which was very nice! Since alot of our music is inspired by the great production, writing and arrangments of the great Alan Tarney, and such late 70s and 80s pop music, I thought you might be interested in hearing some of our stuff? I'd love to hear your professional opinion and advice on the creative aspect of it. If you want to contact me my email is swardale@ntlworld.com Keep up the great Q and As!

I still think Leo will come back to live in England again in the future

By: STEVE RALPH at 03/11/2008 10:59:13
Hi Leo Dont know whether you ever been to South Africa but one or two of their local artists are worth a listen to if you get the time. Arno Carstens is very good and Karen Zoid is even better She has a wonderful song called Silverbird on her Postmodern World album. Drop in on her website sometime and have a listen. I live in Portsmouth and remember you signing my Guinness book of hit singles one rainy night outside the Guildhall. Ive still got the book.Glad to hear you still producing quality songs. Englands loss is Australias gain. Regards Steve Portsmouth U.K.

By: MS COATES at 03/11/2008 06:11:32
Hi Leo, just thought of another question for you. I think I read somewhere once and would be greatful if you could please let me know the answer to this one....was your home in Amersham, the original home of Julie Andrews?

By: MS COATES at 02/11/2008 19:55:11
Hi Leo, I see that other well known celebrities take part in pantomines and I wonder whether or not would you ever consider doing that? Also what is your favourite television programme? And did I hear once you once went horse riding during one of the episodes of your nineteen seventies series? I look forward to your questions and in advance thank you for answering them.

First saw you in about '74 on TV, went wow and spread the word in Toronto. Then Colonial Tavern - and on and on. My wife and I felt like looking you up - you look good. Come back to Canada - hey, the first single I ever bought was Adam Faith's "It's Alright." You should do a cover.

By: ROBBI at 02/11/2008 01:57:51
Hi Leo. I was wondering if you were planning any future concert dates in Ontario Canada. We all love you here and would like to see you :)

By: CAROLINE FARMER at 01/11/2008 22:40:21
Did I read there is going to be a Leo Sayer calendar coming out for 2009? If so, I would like to order one for my sister, Frances Forbes, who is and has been a huge fan for donkies years. Please can someone let me know, Cheers, Caroline Farmer

By: CHARLOTTE at 01/11/2008 20:30:49
Dear Leo, the email address you have provided in your message doesn't work. The email returns as demon failure - Is this because their computers are switched off or their mail inboxes are full?

By: SHANE at 01/11/2008 17:51:01
Hi Leo Shane again one more question. All your fans know your love of F1 but any chance you have had a chance to watch our Aussie v8 supercar series and would the Clipsal Adelaide 500 interest you next year?. Thanks again.Shane

By: SHANE at 01/11/2008 17:39:52
Hi Leo thankyou for all the great music and shows! My question is who is the person you sing about (if anyone) on "we got away with it "and when are you comming back to Adelaide? I hope real soon. Thankyou agian big fan Shane.

By: at 01/11/2008 05:14:58
Dear Leo, continued from my previous message http://www.glaucus.org.uk/Pubs.htm click or try that link and you will find the Waterside Inn previously The Lady Jane, and I think if you click on The Lady Jane, it will bring up Leo Sayer's lyrics to the song 'Bell's Of St. Mary's' hope this is helpful to you Leo. I have been past that pub once before and little then did I know it was the one you wrote about in your song.

By: CHARLOTTE at 31/10/2008 19:19:30
Hi Leo, many thanks and appreciation for answering all my Leo Sayer queries to you this month. Your answers are always very interesting. Sorry I got one wrong assumption with the railway children but I suppose if I hadn't have asked, I wouldn't have known. Am delighted you are enjoying being back in London again even though its a little on the chilly side. I believe it was in 2004 when you most recently performed with the SAS Band at Eastleigh for their 10th Anniversary of the band - yes I remember seeing all those you mentioned in your kind answer to me, thanks again. I remember Jamie Moses playing the guitar (with a hat on!), he's commical but good. I think the Lady Jane pub was originally called The Tudor, and now its 'The Water Side Inn', I think there's a website of it on the Internet. If I come across it again, I will post you the details of it on here for you. Thanks again Leo, best wishes from Charlotte

Now I wonder whether Leo Sayer will be appearing with the fabulous SAS Band at The Brook venue in Southampton UK, as a surprise guest of theirs again this year. The fabulous SAS Band usually have a line-up of stars including surprise guests and in the past the fabulous Leo Sayer has been one of those pleasant surprises!

By: MIRIAM NIEVES at 30/10/2008 06:24:35
My son saw you on the muppets and he fell in love with your music. He is ten and he says he might want to do one of your songs for his talent show. He is now one of your biggest fans. Just thought you might want to know your music is still making people happy.

Dear Leo, I too would buy a copy of Leo's DVD of his new musical style should he ever release one. Also I remember reading about Leo's knock out come back tour in '98 and the newspaper article stated something about go and see Leo Sayer should the show present itself again,( I would of course) then it said if not buy a copy of the recording of it. Leo was there ever a recording released of your knock out come back tour of that year? And did you know you were once featured on the Friends Reunited website? You were, I can't recall now who posted the picture of you on there would you know the answer to that one? but the person wrote something like, who can ever forget this little icon. I won't that is for sure. I think your name on there was under Gerard Hugh Sayer or Leo Sayer, sorry I can't quite recall it was sometime ago now. I think it was under the Roman Catholic School you went to in Ham Road, Shoreham By Sea.

By: JOANN at 28/10/2008 14:33:28
Dear Leo, Will the cancellation of your show in Adelaide change the plans to record a DVD of you performing your new musical style? I certainly hope not. I would be first in line to buy it ! Thanks for so many years of wonderful music, JoAnn

By: MICHAEL RODRIQUEZ at 27/10/2008 20:29:36
Hey Leo - could we please compare diaries before you arrange tours in Melbourne. After you moved to AUS, my wife and desperately wanted to attend your concert in '06 but it coincided with daughter #1 playing the lead in a musical. Just the other week, your show coincided with daughter #2's birthday!. Did see you at a Day on the Green 18 months ago, but never like to miss an opportunity. Tks

By: JOANN at 27/10/2008 15:16:00
I see that my rant from earlier was deleted but that is fine as long as the proper people saw it and fixed the troublesome problem. Thank you Leo and the moderators for trying to keep this a clean site. It is appreciated. Your fans only wish the best to you and would not jeopardize our chance to interact with you. Thanks again for giving us your time and answering our questions. Here is another....Halloween is quickly approaching. Did you go trick or treating as a child? What did you dress up as ? Do you have the same custom in England as we do in the U.S.? Thanks lots, JoAnn

By: CHARLOTTE JACKIE at 27/10/2008 05:41:51
Leo would you ever release a CD and DVD called 30 Years 30 Hits to continue the celebration of your 30 years or so in the music business? And could do a world tour 30th Anniversary Tour what do you think to that idea? Also was Living In America ever released by Patches? I don't think it was and if it wasn't why wasn't it? And wasn't there an interview of you and Adam Faith recorded and released once? I think I discovered about that at eil.com website but I don't think it is obtainable now is it? I look forward to your answers, with thanks in advance from Charlotte Jackie.

By: CHARLOTTE JACKIE at 27/10/2008 02:47:59

To whom it may concern, My name is David Agius and I am writing this email to you from Malta. I lived in Australia for 30 years between 1963- 1993. I have been hooked on Leo Sayer music since the early 70's since I heard about him for the first time. When I lived in Australia I used to do radio programs, which I always used to include Leo Sayer music. Once a year, I also used to do the Leo Sayer program. which used to include his life story plus his records. The program used to go down extremly well with the listeners. Here in Malta I do radio programs consisting of 50's, 60's 70's 80's and Country music, especially Leo Sayer kind of music. I still do a program once a year about Leo Sayer here also, and it also is enjoyed by my listeners. I will be most obliged if you could send me a photograph, possibly signed by Leo Sayer, so that I can hang it with the rest of my collection in my records room. Thank you Leo, for all the contribution you had given to the music world, and all the happiness you have brought into our lives! My postal address is: David Agius 21 Triq Is- Salvja Zonqor Point Marsascala ZBR 09 Malta Hope to hear from you soon. LEO SAYER NUMBER 1 FAN IN MALTA, David Agius

Hi Leo, What are your plans for ADELAIDE now? When in Rome..........do as the .......... Id buy a Xmas album. Like your shirt in the web photo, who was the label? How have your recent Aussie concerts been received? If Id known Adelaide would cancel, I could have booked good seats for Melbourne........you can apologies personally :) Dont ever 'give away' what makes you LEO, you've done that B4. Theres a lot to be said for effecient managers and promoters. Your Fans have always been there, I wonder why you took such a long sabatical? I turn 50 next month! I saw you first when I was 17. How remarkable that an artist can maintain a charismatic appeal for three decades, across the globe! Please don't retire on this album, or this website. Mind you, the question volumn is now beyond control. Anyway, hope you get this and are enjoying Rome. I was there once, I took the train from Rome to Zurich, you'd love the mountainous scenery. Happy Birthday xxx

By: KEVIN O'LOGHLIN at 24/10/2008 14:36:55
Dear Leo, on a Qantas flight a few months ago I listened to Glenn A Baker's restrospective of your career which I really enjoyed. However it reinforced my disappointment that "Here" has never got the recognition it deserved. I love all your music but there are some brilliant songs on that album - The End, Takin the Easy Way Out, When the Money Runs Out, The World has Changed and more....I suppose these songs are quite different from the many that topped the charts but they will always remain some of my favourite music, and I'm still listening to them with passion 30 years on! All the best, Kevin

By: JOANN at 24/10/2008 10:06:19
Dear Leo,Hi from JoAnn There is a unique piece of philosophy that I have come across many times, perhaps you have too. Every time I see it it reminds me of you and your wonderful free and open approach to life. Here it is ,just for you.....LIFE is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, totally worn out and proclaiming,WOW, WHAT A RIDE !! Hope you like it, JoAnn

By: JACKIE TWINE at 24/10/2008 09:23:13
Hi Leo, please can you tell me why you used the name Jackie in a couple of adverts you were in? One of the adverts was the Toyota one and the other one was a picture of you on the telly in a black taxi cab like the one's in London, and you called out Jackie - I think it was the time you were about to embark on a trip to Norway. Please can you tell me who Jackie was and was it to Bergen Norway, you were heading for? Also how did it feel when you recorded 'One Man Band' I believe it was in Abbey Road Studio's when the Beetles were recording next door to you? Do I recall rightly you have met John Lennon and was it Elton John who got your records played lots on radio as to how you and him became friends? And did you and Janice once live in an apartment in Orchard Road in Singapore?

I would love to see you in concert again. Would be a dream come true to actually meet you now you live on our beautiful shores. My dad took me to see you in concert when I was a little girl. He was born in England so he introduced me to you and your music. I have kept the ticket stub all these years. I came and saw you on saturday 21st april 1984 at the Comedy Theatre. I am 34 now so back then I was 10 years old. If you ever read this message I just want to say you and your music has always stayed in my heart and it will forever. Nina xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Its good to see the moderators working hard and doing a fabulous job of keeping the appearance of this messageboard to how it should really continuously be thank you for that keep up the good work and thank you to Leo Sayer for taking up my idea of a prize for the monthly questions winner and congratulations to Paul Sheerin. Its good he got Leo doing some research. Am glad Leo's enjoying the dialogue, we are too. Thanks Leo Sayer.

By: HEATHER ANGOW at 21/10/2008 12:51:11
Hi Leo, thank you for a fabulous concert. We bought our daughter to see you for her 21st birthday - she fell in love with your music listening to TRAIN on our vinyl when a very little girl. We were not disappointed! She is studying music business management and didn't shy away from telling all her mates she was going to see you! Thanks again it was a pleasure! Heather

By: JOHN STEAD at 21/10/2008 09:47:36
Hi Leo! Just wondered how well you got on with Adam Faith. Also, I am with the Hospital radio service in Hull - I just wondered if you fancied doing us a tagline, or if you are in Hull, England, if you wanted to drop in to our studios. Keep up the good work! :-}

Dear Leo, I am looking forward to the Leo Sayer calendar when it comes out . funny someone asking you about your current concerts appearing on You Tube as I too was thinking and would like to know please if there's going to be a live recording of them out either on DVD or CD or both would be a real treat for us all so we Leo Sayer fans can all get to see a taste of your new style songs as well. Thank you Leo.

By: DIANE IN LONDON at 20/10/2008 22:11:38
Leo, bearing in mind the career path of your early 1970’s peers; from those now in obscurity with their millions, those who are behind the scenes in the music business to the ones who still have chart success, how would you have liked your own career to have panned out? You talk about being disappointed with treatment from the industry, so heres your chance to tell us all what the ideal would be. Also, can you please arrange for footage of your current Australian performances to appear on YouTube. Us fans in the rest of the world are missing out and I love to get my weekly dose of Leo.

By: PAUL SHEERIN at 20/10/2008 21:27:55
Hi leo. Paul from ireland here. Your package arrived today! EXCELLENT PRIZE!!! I could not get any of those cds here, and thank you for signing everything. EXCELLENT! I was sooo happy when i opened the package. Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO MUCH! Thank you for taking the time to do that for your fans. Not many artists do! I respect you even more now. Again, thank you soooo much. Hope to see you in ireland soon! Thank you!

By: JIM WALKER at 20/10/2008 16:55:20
I remember playing your music when I was a disc jockey in radio. My favorite song..You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, but I loved When I need You...Thanks for the Memories Leo, and God bless you in the furtherance of your career.

By: CAROLINE at 20/10/2008 16:39:09
Leo, Just to say I enjoyed the concert Saturday, although it was very different form your usual style. I feel that I may have embarrassed you by giving you the book. I didn't intend for that to happen. I apologise.

By: MATILDA at 20/10/2008 12:22:28
I forgot to add, i recently watched a documentry you did with Glenn. A.Baker and was really pleased that style of learning about where you get your inspiration continued in your wonderful concert, it reveals so much about you as both a artist and a person and allows your fans a glimpse of your creativity and adds a intimate touch - my favorite song is Orchard Road and i found the story behind it fasinating as it paralells a similar time in my life your ability to laugh and reveal mistakes so readily makes you seem like the person next door

By: MATILDA at 20/10/2008 12:11:32
Leo, i drove 350km each way to attend your concert on saturday, it was brilliant the acoustics were fantastic and you were amzing live (being born in the 70's i missed your early stuff) you hinted you may collaborate with the artists you worked with on saturday next year can you give us a hint as to what your next direction will be?and when you will return to the Arts centre?

By: MAURICE at 20/10/2008 08:14:48
Leo, I was at you concert at Hamer Hall last Saturday night (18th October 2008) and may I say how dissappointed I was in the way you sang your valued precious songs of years gone past. As a 44 year old I came to the concert wanting to hear your songs sang in its original format so that I could revisit my memories that these song brought back to me. Unfortunately this was not the case. I love your music dearly and can only suggest you seriously consider doing it the way we have heard it in the past . As a valued fan I left the concert with my wife feeling very let down by the way the songs were sung and lack of energy I have always remebered you by.

By: JILL at 20/10/2008 07:22:55
Hi Leo, I was in the second row at saturday nights concert at Hamer Hall, I thought you were just fantasic, I still can't believe I was that close to you!! Loved your music, and the tales you had to tell. You are a great performer, the nite went too quick, can't wait to see you again!! xoxo

By: STEVE at 20/10/2008 04:30:09
hi leo, when u dressed up as the clown for the song the show must go on did kursty climo have anything to do with this. i have heard of a great make up artist of this name and was wondering if its the same person who looked after you.

By: STEVE at 20/10/2008 04:22:06

By: CRAFTYGIRLWITHRUFFLE (ANN MARIE) at 19/10/2008 21:17:55
Hi Leo, I really enjoyed your show last night. What a civilised way to turn 60. I particularly enjoyed the background of each song. I thought that was special. Love your sense of humour too. Please come back to cosmopolitan Melbourne soon. I got my T-Shirt too. Regards Ann Marie

By: JIM HILL at 19/10/2008 20:05:29
HI, I went to the concert last night at Hamer Hall - Melbourne. I have to say I didn't like the concert with the new arrangements. There were glimpses of the old Leo Sayer that I have enjoyed for years. But the new mellow approach.....didn't do it for me. I went to see and hear the songs I have enjoyed for so long. Will we EVER see the old songs sung as they were recoreded?

By: ANNA MUMFORD at 19/10/2008 13:53:22
Dear Leo,Thanks again for a great show with the southern stars at Hamer Hall Melb. last night. Tony and I loved the new arrangements of your earlier hits. It was a pleasure to meet you and for you to sign my Endless Flight album. Couldn't have asked for a better birthday present! Love and thanks, Anna.

CONFIDENTIAL Leo! It's me! We spoke a few times a couple of years ago when I was doing a Cliff book (we talked about the writing of "Dreamin'"). I'm a serious songwriter now, Leo - have written loads of tracks with Rod Trott (who co-wrote Cliff's "Ocean Deep" and others) and am about to co-write a one-off with one of the UK's most respected and successful songwriters. Two things: I'd love to run a couple of new songs by you - they'd suit you down to the ground; and I'd love to co-write with you. We could swap music/words/ideas by e-mail. I'm actually really good! What do you think? Regards, Mark Kearns

By: CHARLOTTE at 17/10/2008 21:10:09

By: CHARLOTTE at 16/10/2008 04:29:06
Hi Leo, please can you tell me when you first performed at Chiddingfold and how many times have you performed there?

By: CRAIG WILLIAMS at 15/10/2008 21:06:33
Hello Leo. In 1974 I was a precocious 5 year old whose Dad taught to operate the record turntable without damaging the LPs. One album had an insert with sketched pictures that caught my eye (I coloured them in with textas). The album was your 'Just A Boy', and as I learnt to read along with the lyrics on each page, listening to you sing them, I taught myself to read at an adult level before I even started school. At about 6 or 7yrs I stood up in front of my school and sang 'One Man Band'...my first public performance. I've now been a professional actor/singer for over 20 years, and I thought you might get a kick out of knowing how your music reached a kid much younger than your target audience...and that it had such a positive influence on my education and career! I now perform a lot for children, knowing that sometimes I might be influencing them in a similar way - 'paying it forward', if you like. Thanks so much. All the best, Craig.

The last time that my mother heard from Janice was in July of 1984 to tell my mother (Mickey) of Molly's death. I have tried so many avenue's trying to find her. Can you help me in this matter? The last address that I had for Janice was Flat 7, Pheasantry House, 4, Jubilee Plce, London Sw3 3TQ ENGLAND. Hoping for a reply. I did find my other cousin, Janice's brother Ian and that was a plus. Please, please come to the UK soon. I need my Leo fix. Better watch out though - I'm planning to capture you and keep you locked up in my spare room , only bringing you food when you write me songs (a bit like 'Misery!)Important question no 1 - do you have any pets?, important question no 2- I've heard you're a closet intellectual - who are your favourite writers? IQno3. Do you remember that woman who emerged from the crowd and garbbed hold of you at Delamere forest? (it wasn't me by the way!) IQno4. Did you know there is a group on Facebook dedicated to tracking you down in Sydney? that's it for now. You seemto have your work cut out answering all these questions don't you? Love Clare x

By: CHARLOTTE at 14/10/2008 12:25:58
Hi Leo, that's interesting one of yours and Janice's pet rats was called Florence. Was that named after Janice's middle name Florence?

By: MALCOLM FURY at 14/10/2008 06:49:49
Just to say i still really enjoy your music as much as you do making it,you sound as good as ever.

By: JOANN at 14/10/2008 04:36:36
Leo,Please ignore the idiot posters that have nothing better to do than insult people.Your true fans would never do that.I remembered another question.Did you ever participate in sports in school,on a team? Some one said once that you had been a long distance runner. Is that true?...Also if anyone has a copy of Leos interview with Glenn A Baker or Rockwiz could you please post it so others could enjoy it? Thanks, love JoAnn

By: JOANN at 14/10/2008 03:37:07
Dear Leo, Did you have any pets as a child, do you have any now? I remember reading that you and Janice had pet rats for a time.,and little Florence passed away in Beverly Hills. How lond did you have Tito?I read that some people in the U.K. were giving you grief because you would carry Tito with you everywhere. What did people expect? It was a very tiny dog.It could easily get stepped on and injured.Best wishes from your animal loving American fan,JoAnn

Hi Leo 3 friends and myself are organising a "Gilrs Night Out" to raise funds for the NSW Cancer Council on Nov.8 2009 at the Bankstown Sports Club for 200 funlovingwomen.During the evening we will be screening video messages from artists/celebrities projected onto the walls. This was really well received last year and I'm sure helped in our result of raising over $20,000. If you could send a message of 10 - 15 seconds, we would be really thrilled. Thanks, Margaret xx

By: CHARLOTTE at 13/10/2008 07:01:10
hi leo, i know we can ask you questions too as you said 'keep 'em coming!' i would like to know please how did you become associated with the sas band and jill the secretary of that band ?

By: CHARLOTTE at 13/10/2008 02:46:08
Think of how much postage that would cost mailing from Australia to all over the world and to all his fans - It would cost Leo an arm and a leg to do that, and that wouldn't be fair on him. Leo, you have performed musical nights of fun with the SAS BAND haven't you? And they are your musical friends too aren't they? They include Spike Edney, Jeff Scott-Soto, Jamie Moses, Chris Thompson/Thomson - and oh what's the girls name you sang with her on stage at Eastleigh and the FABA Girls ?

By: JULIE at 13/10/2008 02:06:33
Leo, why don't you start a mail fan club up again - it is lovely to receive proper mail and we would only receive genuine information

By: CHARLOTTE COATES at 12/10/2008 09:06:48
YO LEO! I'm your biggest fan thanks for responding to my request again if that was you who did when I requested to see more of Leo Sayer on British television cheers mate, you're a star a number one star. Its Charlotte-Jackie Jumpy jumpy jumpers again and I got all over excited watching your fantastic interview on King's of the Seventies Romance - you certainly are a king. It was interesting to see some of the folk you worked with, David Courtney and Richard Perry. Was interesting to hear also that you got engaged, married and divorced Janice to 'When I Need You'. Janice did a marvelous job of designing the pierrot costume. It must have been hot in that on stage. Seeing you on the telly tonight brought back all those wonderful memories I still hold of you and me - it was great to hear you sing 'Moonlighting', 'When The Money Runs Out', and as always I went nuts to when you performed 'One Man Band'. It was also good to hear you sing 'Silverbird'. I was naughty and turned the sound up a bit even though it was late. Oh Leo - please come back mate would love to meet you again. Thank you Leo - you're brilliant!

By: DYLAN ROWLANDS at 12/10/2008 09:01:08
Hi Leo - my favourite LS is an obscure one "Tomorrow" but I can't for the life of me find it on a CD anywhere - none of the greatest hits packages I can find inculde it. You wrote it right ? Do you know why it isn't popular for re release and is that going to change anytime soon it ain't on itunes either. Elkie Brooks did a cover of it on her "Rich Man's Woman" in 1975 did you like that cover ?

By: BARBARA at 12/10/2008 06:24:33
i'm your biggest fan.

By: ADRIAN FROST at 11/10/2008 22:55:20
I'm a trombone player in my 50's who used to play in symphony orchestras around the world. I have always enjoyed your music. I had the privilege of playing some back up on an album that was tentatively called Orchard Road when I lived in Singapore between 1980 - 1983. What album did it end up being, I don't recall Orchard Road being one of the songs I played. As you are aware, most of the songs had no name and we didn't hear all of it, being a trombone player, I only heard the rhythm and my part.

By: BENITA at 11/10/2008 22:28:22
Just watched you on Rockwiz tonight. You are the best! I have been listening to you since I was a teenager and I love your music and your enthusiasm even more now. My favourite song of yours is 'Moonlighting', Keep doing what you are doing, putting magic into people's lives.

LEO SAYER is on BBC2 tonight at 11.25pm in UK. I'm hoping to stay up and make an effort to watch him. My friend kindly rang me up and let me know he's on and thinks he could be singing 'When I Need You'. I understand he's on with other seventies stars. Thanks Leo, will be good to watch you - enjoy Leo Sayer!

By: CHARLOTTE COATES - LINDA DARLING at 11/10/2008 08:51:14
Hi Linda, yes someone from this Leo Sayer website and I have emailed each other and we have become very good friends. I managed to discover the person very genuine and am good friends with the whole family now. Yes, we are still in touch with each other and we look out for each other too even though we haven't personally met there's time for that yet. We have even exchanged gifts too. Quite safely may I add to that.

I specialise in radio interviews with the great hitmakersand songwriters of the 50s, 60s and 70s. I started along these lines after realising I was doing too many tribute programmes. My show is here on the Costa Blanca in Spain and the audience is an estimated 50.000. We have a mature audience which is most appreciative and receptive to talk radio. The audience can double as we have a twin station with which we link at various times during the day. Please feel free to visit my website to see the guests who have kindly given me an interview. This would involve approximately 20 minutes on the telephone. My show runs each day of the week between 12 and 3 pm Spanish time. Best wishes Vince Tracy http://www.vincetracy.com

Aww, sorry I won't let the name Charlotte down, I don't mean too - I also think its a pretty name that's why I added it to my other names preferred it - and there was another personal reason I changed it to Charlotte. Thank you for that Joann. However, I've been thinking of adding another fave name to my string of already names, Kirsty. I don't think Leo would like us to chat to each other on his message board if I remember rightly he stated that in an earlier message from him, so if you'd like to email me, you're more than welcome to email me charlottecoates1@btinternet.com as Leo said we can email each other for our communications so I'm respecting Leo's wishes on that one! I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you, Charlotte in England
